Recently, the 2022 Geneva International Invention Exhibition announced the list of winners, the University of Science and Technology of China (referred to as China University of Science and Technology) nuclear science and technology school special researcher Wu Zhengwei led the team to develop "medical exogenous atmospheric cold plasma jet device" (hereinafter referred to as plasma jet device) won the gold medal.
Wu Zhengwei introduced that the plasma jet device developed by the team adopts a novel structure, which can stably generate cold plasma in the atmospheric environment, is easy to operate, can directly act on the body surface, and can also be easily imported into the body through special design. In addition, the device is different from the traditional plasma ablation in principle, avoiding the damage to the normal tissue of the patient during the ablation process. At the same time, this innovative medical method does not involve drugs and radioactivity, and the action time is controllable.
The team used the device to test animals with rheumatoid arthritis. Studies have shown that the synovium of rats with arthritis is close to normal after treatment with exogenous plasma. This in vitro experiment demonstrated that exogenous plasma could induce apoptosis and inhibit invasion and migration of rheumatoid fibroblast synoviocytes almost without affecting normal cells. This provides a theoretical basis for the targeted therapy of this kind of inflammation.
Wu Zhengwei said that the introduction of exogenous plasma and the use of its properties to treat related diseases are promising to develop into a new health intervention. At present, the team has declared a number of patents and is designing clinical trials.
It is reported that the Geneva International Invention Exhibition, founded in 1973, is one of the world's longest and largest invention exhibitions, and has been successfully held for 49 sessions.
